Farewell Combustion

In 2019, Formula Student Germany released a series of strategic announcements that will see the gradual discontinuation of the internal combustion (IC) class, as well as the incentivisation of a driverless capable vehicle. Although Formula SAE-Australasia will continue to host an IC class for the foreseeable future, as a team we must consider our vision and follow the path that will help us best achieve it. As a result, Monash Motorsport has decided it will cease to design and manufacture a car for the IC class of competitions indefinitely.

It is essential to acknowledge the many generations of Monash Motorsport combustion cars, the engineers behind them, and what they have given our team. The history and success of Monash Motorsport has undeniably been built on these cars and the learnings they have brought every single team member, past and present. Without the hard work, dedication, and endless hours spent in our workshop since 1999, our team would not be where it is today and for that we must thank everyone that has been part of that journey. To commemorate this turning point in our team's history, we have compiled a short video documenting some special moments from over the years, both good and bad, all relating to our past and present combustion cars.

Whilst we will not be building any new combustion cars for the foreseeable future, we will be maintaining both of our current combustion cars, M18-C and M19-C, to be used as part of a dedicated testing fleet. These cars, along with M19-E and M19-D, will continue to be driven with the aims of improving driver training, software development, acting as test platforms for new concepts and continuing to be an incredible source of knowledge and learning for all Monash Motorsport members to come.
