Engineering Leadership Dinner

A few members of the Monash Motorsport team were fortunate enough to be invited to attend Monash University Faculty of Engineering’s annual Engineering Leadership Program dinner last November, honouring the graduation of more than 40 students from the prestigious program.

The three-year program is open to all students enrolled in an engineering degree at Monash University involving a competitive application and interview process. It offers students the chance to hone skills including communication, negotiation and project management throughout their course, which ultimately gives these students an advantage alongside their technical skills upon entering the workforce.

Students of the Engineering Leadership Program are also frequently among the first to be selected for scholarships and internships offered by the many industry partners who support the program, and this year’s event was very well-attended by professionals, who mingled and networked with the student crowd throughout the evening.

Monash Motorsport had a visible presence throughout the event, with M14 centrally positioned among a number of displays including the Monash UAS team and the world’s first 3D-printed titanium jet engine, manufactured within the university. Members of the team were on hand to impress industry figures with our own similar use of such technology on our titanium wheel hubs, in addition to parts such as our carbon fibre wheel shells. Uniquely, various components of our, and other university projects were used as centrepieces during the dinner, providing intrigue and an excellent conversation starter for those seated at each table.

A number of guest speakers provided a host of entertainment throughout the evening, from Woodside Energy’s glimpse into the future of research using Artificial Intelligence to Telstra’s insight into smart workforce automation. Students also presented personal insights into the program, with a number of very entertaining presentations which demonstrated the calibre of the cohort involved.
